Looking forward to warmer days and outdoor summer recreation? It’s not too early to start thinking about camping! Let your imagination take you there now. Hiking, boating, campfires, hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows, and quality family time–these are the familiar activities, sounds and smells of a great camping getaway. Making reservations early can ensure your favorite campground will have a site available for you.
Michigan camping offers something for everyone–camp along rivers, lakes, sand dunes and beaches, near the Great Lakes, in state parks and national forests. Enjoy Michigan camping in tents, RVs, cabins, or sleeping under the stars. Before you make plan for your next camping getaway, keep the following tips in mind:
- Check with the campground to find out how far in advance you can reserve a campsite, and book as soon as possible.
- Be aware that holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day are the season’s most popular times for camping; therefore, making it harder to get a camping site.
- Try to arrive on a weekday, that way a week-long reservation allows you to take advantage of staying throughout the weekend.
- Check the campground for openings daily. If your favorite campsite or campground is booked, a cancellation may be your opportunity to get in on short notice.
