The Office of Global Michigan is pleased to announce the launch of the Digital English as a Second Language (DESL) program. The DESL program is a 12-month state-wide initiative that will focus on individuals who face an English proficiency barrier to social integration and economic self-sufficiency.
This project will strive to address the gap in English proficiency and digital literacy by providing access to an industry leading online English acquisition platform and virtual digital literacy classes. The DESL program will provide eligible individuals access to virtual English instruction through Voxy Engen, which includes independent and group lessons, career-specific instruction, and 24/7 access to learning. Additionally, DESL participants can participate in live, online classes designed to support their goals regarding digital literacy, social integration, and employment.
The DESL program is open to all immigrant and refugee individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Immigrant or refugee currently living in Michigan
- Highly motivated to study English online on a weekly basis
- Seeking employment or a job upgrade, if applicable
Applications for the DESL program are now open and individuals can apply online here or by completing the attached paper application between now and August 1st, 2022, however openings are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis. Please encourage eligible individuals to apply as soon as possible to leverage the full range of services of the program, which ends on Feb 28th, 2023.
