Who was your first customer and what do you supply?
The first customer was General Motors in 2001. We supply windshield wiper system, window lift motor and radiator cooling fan.
What was your gross income last year?
It was $30M in Michigan last year. To include Hydraulic Machinery division in Seattle, it was $80 million.
Where have you turned to find capital to grow your company and which institutions have provided it?
We found capital mainly from our mother company in Korea.
What are some of the advantages to doing business here?
We have a very close contact with our major customers. That’s why we set up our main office and facility in Michigan. Michigan state government and Korea has agreed to waive ……
If you could change one thing about this region, what would it be?
The Incentives provided by the state of Michigan is not always what we expected comparing to other states. When new employees arrive from Korea, they have hard time to get their Social Security Number to open a banking account and to acquire driver’s license. US Embassy in Korea issues E1 or L1 visa for our officers coming to US, but the duration of stay is sometimes only 2 years, so that the officers and family who have to be in Michigan for up to four years have to visit Korea to extend the visa. It is very uncomfortable for many officers from Korea.

Dongyang America was established in Sterling Heights in 2004, to support our growing automotive business in North and South America. The 30,000 sqft engineering and sales office includes a validation, testing lab, design center and a fully functional warehouse. Today we provide front and rear wiper systems, window lift motors and power lift gate motor that are produced at our Incheon, Korea facility.
Our focus is to support our local customer base with world class system integration and the highest quality products.
