F-22 Raptor Making First-Ever Appearance at Thunder Over Michigan

YPSILANTI, MI (March 8, 2016) – The Thunder Over Michigan Air Show presented by the Wayne County Airport Authority announced today that it has added the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor stealth tactical fighter demonstration team to its roster of performers for its 2016 show Aug. 20-21 at Willow Run Airport.
The Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor is a fifth-generation single-seat twin-engine all-weather stealth tactical fighter. Its combination of stealth, aerodynamic performance and situational awareness enable the aircraft to have unprecedented air combat abilities. The aircraft is often referred to as the most advanced, most sophisticated military jets in use today.
“This is an incredible addition to our already strong line up of performers,” said Thunder Over Michigan Air Show and Yankee Air Museum Executive Director Kevin Walsh. “There more than 350 air shows across North America each year a – the Raptor is appearing at only 23 of them.
We are extremely proud to have been selected as one of the few air shows where they will perform.”
Walsh added that the F-22 Raptor is one of the most sought-after demonstrations on the air show circuit. This is its first-ever appearance at Thunder Over Michigan.
The F-22 Raptor joins a list of performers that includes the Breitling Jet Team from France – also making its first appearance – the only North American appearance of the Russian MiG-23 Flogger, the famed Russian Mi-24 Hind helicopter and much more. The 2016 Thunder Over
Michigan Air Show is themed ‘HELOtown USA’ because of the number and variety of helicopters it will host.
